The Experience

**Explore Magang Fishing Village located in Gongliao District, New Taipei City

Taiwan's easternmost point "122 degrees east longitude and 25 degrees north latitude" is not located in Taitung or Lanyu, but under San Diaojiao, a promontory close to the junction of New Taipei City and Yilan. You may have heard of San Diaojiao Lighthouse, but few know about the small fishing village "Ma Gang" under the lighthouse. When the Spanish fleet passed this cape in 1626, it gave him the same name as his beautiful hometown - S. Tiago (Santiago) on the nautical chart. After years of transliteration, "San Diao" became the name of this area, but The small fishing village on the promontory is called Magang? Welcome to walk with us into a small settlement that has been forgotten by the world. Travel through time and space in the stone houses and alleys that seem to be suspended, and learn about the daily life of the sea people who live in symbiosis with the sea.

**Visit the centennial stone house

Take a look at the stone house settlement in the northeast coast that was created by wind and waves. In the fishing village in the northeast coast, there are many stone houses built with local materials. They are often more than 70 or 80 years old which have experienced typhoons, earthquakes, etc. and still stand firm. There are many stone houses in Magang Fishing Village have been completely preserved. Apart from the stone houses, the best thing about being close to the sea is probably the beautiful first row of sea views, but for people in the village, there is only the scary "first row of waves"! Faced with the dangers of nature and the necessity of survival, how did the ancestors use their wisdom to live and work peacefully in this land that is hit hard by the northeast monsoon every year?

**Follow Ama to see a variety of sea life in an intertidal zone

Get to know "Taiwan's Ama": collect humanities in the northeast coast of the ocean and experience walking in the intertidal zone wearing straw sandals. Influenced by Japanese and Korean dramas, everyone is more or less familiar with the term "Ama", but in fact there is also such a group of women in Taiwan Living by the sea. Some are to supplement family income, and some directly support a family's economy. Unlike Japanese and Korean haenyeo who emphasize diving, Taiwanese haenyeo can collect different seaweed, shellfish, etc. on the coast all year round. Even using equipment has its own purpose. Let’s follow "Taiwan's Ama" and walk around the intertidal zone wearing straw sandals (previously non-slip shoes) and get close to a variety of marine life and plants, from seaweed to submerged minor reefs. And discover creatures such as bivalves, starfishes, fish, crabs, and much more.
